Unspeakable Joy

Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings Blessed Child of God,

I pray that your holiday season is going well and filled with Unspeakable Joy! I recently read a blog post from a yoga teacher friend of mine this past week. She spoke about her 2 year old son and how he jumped up, rolled across the floor got up and danced in sheer elation after she asked him to clean his room. Read the entire post here.

The biggest take away for me from this emailed blog update is that despite the mess in the room, or the task requested of him, he chose to dance atop the mess anyway. He continued to live and enjoy the moment and the music in his heart in spite of what was happening around him.  Many times our lives can leave us surrounded by mess and demands. Do this. Be that. Fix this. Do that. Task atop of task. Mess atop of mess. So much so it can eventually break us and burn us out. But when we learn to experience the source of True Joy in the midst of the mess and chaos we can Dance in the midst of our pain. Laugh atop our mess! We can have Unspeakable Joy!

People in our lives that are used to seeing us down or frustrated are dumbfounded by such a reaction. They wonder, why and what on earth has him or her so giddy, so happy. They wonder how are we able to keep showing up everyday with a smile on our face. They question our behavior. They say things like Do they not see the mess they are in? Didn’t he or she get the news? I thought he or she was going through something? Etc. Etc. It makes them wonder why we laugh and smile and sometimes even jump up and dance.

When we find ourselves in a state of sheer excitement that even we cannot put words to or tell people exactly what we’re so excited about. That’s God.

His Holy Spirit dwelling inside us is rejoicing. He already knows what has happened, what is happening and what’s about to happen in our life. He speaks to our very soul in a state of celebration, like music. Like a child, it makes us just want to jump up, roll across the floor and dance.

The same happened when Mary, after receiving the news that she will bear the Son of the living God in her very womb; visited her cousin Elizabeth. Scripture says, that Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and the baby in her womb leaped in her belly. In the midst of the scandalous nature of Mary’s pregnancy by societal standards and the doubtfulness of Elizabeth’s husband Zechariah that muted him, when an angel told him Elizabeth would also bear a child; among all that mess; still a celebration ensued.

At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

Luke 1:39-45

So what was the cause for such a celebration? This one very fact: The news of the promise of Great Joy! Unspeakable Joy! The Joy of a Savior to come! A Promise kept and a Hope fulfilled!

“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”

~ Luke 2:10-11(NIV)

When is the last time, unspeakable joy caused you to jump up, roll across the floor, and dance to the music in your own heart, music that only your soul could hear. Music that makes you want to leap with excitement in the midst of  all the mess and chaos around you?

Take a lesson from a child and the promise of Great Joy. No matter what is going on around us, inside we still have a reason to laugh, smile, and even leap with excitement, even  jump up, roll across the floor and dance!.

Even if you are waiting on a situation to improve. Wait in EXPECTANT Joy! For the joy of the Lord, is your strength. So why not jump up and dance while you wait during this holiday season. Laugh and Celebrate anyway! For we have a promise of a Savior who came so that we may have Great Joy; Expectant Joy; and most of all to leave us with an Unspeakable Joy!

“Go home and prepare a feast, holiday food and drink; and share it with those who don’t have anything: This day is holy to God. Don’t feel bad. The joy of God is your strength!”

~ Nehemiah 8:10 (MSG)

Until next time….
